HatchLog prints onto plain blank labels, the same kind any thermal printer takes. So the only real decision is which printer to buy, and every printer on this page is one we have actually used, not one we picked off a spec sheet.
What gets printed on a label
One label per animal. HatchLog fills in the name, morph, and parents so you can read a cage without pulling out your phone, and puts a QR code next to them. Scan that code and the app opens straight to that animal, so you can log a pairing, a clutch, or a weight without walking away from the bin.
There are two kinds of code. Local codes just manage your own animals in HatchLog, and they need no registration. Registry codes are public, so someone can look up an animal’s registration and send you a transfer request. Either way it is the same printer and the same labels, so this choice has no effect on what you buy.

HatchLog hands the whole batch to the printer’s own app as a PDF and you print from there. One extra step, and these printers usually cost less.

Our current recommendation
Rollo Wireless X1040
This is the one we keep coming back to. It takes labels straight from HatchLog over Wi-Fi, with no printer app and no phone print dialog in the way. Both MUNBYN models printed just as cleanly, but you have to go through the MUNBYN Print app to do it, which is why the Rollo is still the one we reach for.

Model numbers matter more here than they look like they should. Two printers that look identical can differ on minimum label size or how they connect, so check the number before you order.

Pick the format your printer takes. Thermal printers pull one label at a time off a roll. A regular inkjet or laser printer does a whole sheet at once.
