Standards
The published Standards of The Reptile Club. Authoritative definitions and procedures governing the Registry of pedigrees.
The Standards are the Club's authoritative documents on the language and practice of reptile pedigree. Each Standard is published by the Club and remains in effect until superseded by a later issue. Standards govern the words by which lineage is recorded, the procedures by which records enter the Registry, and the conventions used in the publication of registered animals.
Standards are published as they are adopted. Several are presently in preparation; their entries below indicate the expected scope and the season of expected adoption.
-
Pedigree Terms and Lineage Documentation
Establishes the vocabulary by which the Registry records and reports lineage. Defines registered animal, registration code, Certificate of Pedigree, producer, keeper of record, sire and dam, lineage as a graph, and the unregistered parent slot. Governs the language printed on every Certificate of Pedigree.
-
Hatch and Provenance Records
Will establish the records a producer maintains for each registered animal, the basis on which the Registry accepts the hatch date, species, and parentage at issue, and the relationship between the producer's working records and the certificate published by the Club.
-
Identification of Registered Animals
Will establish the conventions by which a registered animal is identified for the Registry, the role of the photographic record, and the procedures by which the keeper of record may amend identifying information after issue.
-
Transfers of Ownership
Will establish the procedure by which the keeper of record on a registered animal is changed, the form in which transfer events are recorded on the public Registry, and the relationship between the chain of transfers and the producer's permanent attribution.
-
Naming Conventions
Will establish the conventions for animal names recorded on the Registry, the protection of breeder prefixes, the character set permitted in the name field, and the procedure by which a keeper of record may change a registered animal's name.
-
Refusals and Corrections
Will establish the grounds on which the Registry may refuse or annotate a registration, the procedures by which a record may be challenged or corrected after issue, and the public notation that appears on records subject to dispute.
-
Hybrid and Cross-Species Registration
Will establish the position of the Registry on the registration of animals whose parents are of different species, the language used to designate such animals on their certificates, and the conditions under which the Registry will record cross-species lineage.
-
Crested Gecko Morphs
The first species-specific Standard. Will establish the morph terms recognized by the Registry for Correlophus ciliatus, the conventions for combining trait names on a Certificate of Pedigree, and the position of the Club on contested or proprietary trait designations.
